State Senator Vincent Illuzzi of Derby, Vermont was appointed. He has been a member of the Vermont Senate since 1981 and has served as Assistant Minority Leader and Assistant Republican leader for many years in the Senate. An attorney, he was the youngest person ever elected to the Senate at age 27. He is the representative from Essex and Orleans County. One of his many interests has been historic preservation. He has served on the Governor's Committee on Children and Youth and the Governor's Commission on the Administration of Justice. He chaired and served on the Senate Institutions committee for 15 years.
