Kitty was born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire, is a direct descendant of the earliest settlers of Plymouth Notch and is a relative of the Coolidge family. She is an alumna of The Westover School, Colby Sawyer College, and Innsbruck (Austria) University. She trained at the Crotched Mt. Rehab Center and taught a class of deaf/cerebral palsied children.

From 1970 to her recent retirement, Kitty resided at Kimball Union Academy as housemother, librarian, and archivist, along with Austrian husband who served as a faculty member and coach. While residing in Meriden, she served on the Preschool Board, was Director of the Recreation Committee, President of the Friends of the Library, and a Girl Scout Leader.
