Professor Robert H. Ferrell Gives Colloquium and Seminars at Ashbrook Center, Ashland, Ohio
Robert H. Ferrell, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History, Indiana University, gave two seminars and a colloquium at Ashbrook Center, Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio in January. The seminars were entitled "Calvin Coolidge and the Staid 1920s" and the colloquium was "Good fortune in Politics: the Case of Calvin Coolidge." Ferrell is on the National Advisory Board of the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation and is a leading scholar on the presidency and foreign relations. Ferrell wrote The Presidency of Calvin Coolidge in 1998 for University Press of Kansas. The book is available from CCMF.
In the colloquium Ferrell commented on the good fortune that Calvin Coolidge enjoyed with his positive handling of the Boston Police Strike of 1919, nomination at the 1920 Republican convention for Vice President, and having as president a man with very high blood pressure. In the seminars, Ferrell asked how much individuals can confront the major movements in history. He also asked that after looking at history, can we look ahead? Professor Ferrell assigned his students The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge which was ordered through CCMF for the programs. CCMF sent membership materials to Ashland University for this event.
