Calvin Coolidge: Cartoons of His Presidential Years
edited by Edward Connery Lathem, Lunenburg, Vermont, The Stinehour Press, 1973.
The cartoons, mainly drawn by Ding Darling appeared in newspapers in the 1920’s. Most showed the “homely virtues for which Mr. Coolidge was so generally admired,” quoted the Boston Herald, 1933.
One of these cartoons was shown by Donald Harpster at the National Council for History Education conference and many more cartoons are on this website.

Calvin Coolidge: The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge
This recent reprint is made possible through the generosity of the National Notary Association, with the active support and encouragement of the President Milton G. Valera, the Executive Director Tim Reiniger, and the Director of Strategic Planning, Steven Bastian. We thank Jim Cooke and Sheldon Stern for collaborating on an introduction for modern readers. Jim Cooke has added an impressive index as well. The endorsements from historian Richard Norton Smith, historian Robert H. Ferrell, U.S. Senator James M. Jeffords, U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, and Governor of Vermont, James Douglas, also show modern readers the lasting importance of this biography.
Richard Norton Smith, Executive Director, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum says: “Shattering the caricature of Silent Cal, this is actually one of the most revealing of all presidential memoirs. On the subject of his Vermont boyhood, his democratic roots, and those whom he loved and lost, Calvin Coolidge could be downright lyrical. Ghosts haunt these pages—not thankfully, ghost writers. Every word and emotion is pure Coolidge. A deeply moving, often surprising, self-portrait by one of America’s most singular men.”

Calvin Coolidge The Quiet President
Donald R. McCoy, published by American Political Biography Press.
Professor McCoy, a specialist in twentieth-century American affairs, spent seven years on the preparation of this study, which is both a biography and an assessment of, in the author’s words, “a politician who was less than crafty, a President who deserves some praise and much understanding along with criticism.”

Grace Coolidge and Her Era: The Story of a President's Wife
Ishbel Ross CCMF ©2002 Ishbel Ross
This beautifully written biography of a President’s wife has just been re-issued by the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation. There is a new foreword by Jennifer Coolidge Harville, great granddaughter of Grace Coolidge. She concludes by saying, “This book provides us with one of the best historical accounts of Grace Coolidge’s life. It is important for us to supplement this resource with oral history shared by people who knew Mrs. Coolidge. We need to preserve their memories, thoughts, and impressions of Grace’s persona. Sharing her spirit will help us keep the legacy of Grace Coolidge alive for generations to come.”
The book traces the life of Grace Coolidge from her childhood through her years as a teacher of the deaf, then as wife of the rising politician, Calvin Coolidge, and eventually as First lady.

Grace Coolidge: Sudden Star
By Cynthia D. Bittinger ©2005
Grace Coolidge was a modern woman. Born in 1879, she participated in many changes for women in American society. She was a friendly, lively woman who was interested in public service and education of the deaf from an early age. In 1920, she voted for her husband as Vice President! (This was the first national election where women could vote.) Once in Washington, Grace enjoyed the fashions of the times and found a new passion: sports. Grace and Calvin came to the White House after the death of President Warren Harding. They were suddenly placed in the spotlight and the new first lady, Grace Coolidge, was a "sudden star", unknown to the public before her new role. This personal story of Grace Coolidge is augmented with her letters, newly donated from the Coolidge family and others. Robert P. Watson is editor of this series on presidential wives.
